Pride Film Classics Screening -
"My Own Private Idaho"
Cinema “Skalvija”
A. Goštauto Street 2 , Vilnius
18:30

A road drama about two young street hustlers living on the margins of society. Mike, a young man suffering from narcolepsy, sets out on a journey across the United States in search of his mother, a sense of home, and answers about his past. Traveling with him is Scott, the rebellious son of a wealthy family who has chosen life on the streets as a form of protest. Freely interpreting texts by William Shakespeare, the director creates a dreamlike, fragile, yet bold story about friendship, desire, and the search for identity.

N-16.

The film is in English, Italian, and German with Lithuanian subtitles.

This is one of the first widely recognized works to sensitively and complexly portray queer identity and the lives of marginalized youth. River Phoenix’s outstanding performance is still considered one of the strongest of his generation. The film’s influence can still be seen today in auteur cinema, where the road movie genre is used as a form of identity exploration and social critique.
